Holiday 2018 Gift Guide: DIY Gifts

You can't go wrong with a store bought gift, but sometimes it is so fun to make a gift. Here are three of my favorite DIY gifts to give this holiday season.

DIY Floating Glass Frame

1. Pick out a frame. JoAnn Fabrics has a lot of great shapes and sizes to choose from.

2. Pick the art. Pressed flowers are gorgeous. A letter, card, or song with sentimental value will show your loved ones how much they mean to you.

3. Frame it. Once you have gathered what you would like to put in the frame, arrange it accordingly. Sometimes double sided tape is a great tool to keep things in place.

DIY Cutting Board Design

1. Pick out a cutting board.

2. Wood Burning Pen. This one from Amazon is a steal.

3. Choose a design. Once you know what you would like to design on your cutting board, you can use a stencil or draw the deigns with a pencil, and then start burning.

4. Seal it. Apply a few coats of mineral oil to the board to seal it. Mineral oil brings out the beautiful wood grain, protects it from moisture, and it’s food safe.

DIY Sharpie Mug

1. Buy some white mugs. A dollar store is a great place to find mugs.

2. Pick a Sharpie or two. Oil-based Paint Sharpie markers are the best. Regular Sharpie ink can come off after baking, but it will work as well.

3. Start drawing. Once you decide what you want to put on the cup, practice drawing it on a piece of paper before drawing on the mug. Write a friend's name, initial, quote, or just get creative and draw!

4. Dry it out. Let your mug dry for a few hours or overnight before placing it into the oven.

5. Bake it. Bake the mug in the oven for 30 minutes at 350°F.  Place the mug in the oven before it heats up and leave it in until the oven cools completely so there won't be any cracks.

6. Care and wash. Hand-wash the mugs instead of using the dishwasher to protect your beautiful design.

What DIY gifts are you making this holiday?
