Thoughts On Turning 26

Last week, I turned the big 2-6. Unlike some years when I have felt anxious about adding an extra number to my age, I welcomed 26 with ease and a strange calmness. I have a really good feeling about 2015 and turning 26 is just a part of that journey.

To celebrate, my dearest friends and I had dinner at The Smith. The food and company was wonderful. It can be tricky getting everyone together, and while I was sitting at the table enjoying all of their company, I felt an overwhelming sense of love. Each person at that table, had I known them for years or just a few short months, has made in impact on my life and I am so thankful for them. I tried to convey that in a poorly prepared speech over the noise of the restaurant. I think handwritten notes are in order to truly show my appreciation. it was a perfect night and one I will not soon forget.

The festivities kept going well into the weekend. The day after dinner in the city with friends, I flew home where my father prepared a delicious grilled steak dinner. He is an phenomenal cook. I was so full and tired from traveling, I quickly feel asleep on the couch after my last bite. An hour or so later, I was gently woken up to find my two closest friends standing over me with balloons and gifts. My brother had planned a mini surprise party for me. I was once again flooded with emotions of love and gratitude. For the rest of the night, we enjoyed each others company and laughed until we cried playing Cards Against Humanity.

This birthday was so special thanks to my amazing family and friends and I am so thankful for the memories. Twenty-six is already shaping up to be a great year.
