Pantone Color of the Year

Just last week, the Pantone Color of the Year was announced. Two colors were chosen by Pantone Color Institute: Rose Quartz, a lovely faint pink and Serenity, a baby powder blue. An article I read (link below) states, "This color combo is said to be a harmonious pairing of inviting shades that embody a mindset of tranquility and inner peace." When I look at these colors, they are very soothly. I have always been a lover of pastels and soft shades. Leatrice Eiseman, the Creative Director of the Pantone Color Institute, goes on to talk about how these colors are tied into the world and what is going on in today's society with gender. "In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design," said Eiseman. "This more multilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumers' increased comfort with using color as a form of expression which includes a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged, and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage." I, for one, can appreciate this tie in to today's changes and am happy to see colors/topics relating to a bigger picture. I love these soft and sweet colors. I'd love to know, what are your thoughts?
