Erie Local Spotlight 2022: Flagship City Public Market

Yesterday, the Flagship City Public Market opened its doors. This is the newest addition to the Flagship City development. The public market consists of three businesses operating under one roof: the Erie Food Co-op, Luminary Distilling, and Gordon's Meat Market. This location is Erie's first grocery store in the downtown area.

I stopped in today during my lunch break and was blown away by the space. When you first walk in the doors of the North Park entrance, you see a register, the prepared foods department of the co-op, and part of Gordon's Meat Market. Walk further in and you will veer to the left where you see the rest of Gordon's. Their selection is incredible!

Once through Gordon's, you enter into the Erie Food Co-op space. To the left is the bulk coffee leading into the rest of the bulk goods. To the right is a frozen section. I immediately grabbed a bag of Equal Exchange's Mind, Body & Soul beans and ground them up for our drip coffee maker. It's my favorite medium roast blend that has hints of almond, malt, and dark chocolate.

Once the coffee beans were ground up, I opted for a basket and made my way through the rest of the store.
I had to buy a bag of my favorite chips, Boulder Canyon Malt Vinegar & Sea Salt. They are kettle-cooked chips packed with flavor. I also stocked up on some sweets.

The fresh produce was my favorite section. Everything was so bright and fresh. I grabbed some strawberries, lemons, an onion, and a mango. My other favorite part of the store was a giant wall with a mural of Erie County that showed where the local producers were located. It's such a cool way to educate shoppers and highlight local farmers and businesses.

I am so excited about the public market and cannot wait to visit again. Next time, I definitely want to stop in Luminary and grab a drink. Have you been to the Flagship City Market yet?
