Erie's First Winter Carnival

Erie Downtown Partnership threw the first Winter Carnival over the weekend. On Friday night, my friends and I braved the piercing cold to check out the ice sculptures. The carnival was held at Perry Square, where there was live music and local vendors. DiMartino Ice Company came into town and created over 40 ice sculptures. Some were about 3 feet high and premade before the event, but the coolest part of the event was watching the ice sculptors create something right before your eyes!

While walking around, we were able to talk with two of the ice sculptors. They were so friendly and answered all of our questions. I was so curious about the whole ice sculptor process. One of my biggest questions was, how does one get into ice sculpting? I found out many people start out in the culinary world and shift to ice sculpting. How interesting is that!

Yesterday, the sun was shining and I stopped downtown to take some more pictures of the ice sculptures in the daylight. I cannot get over the clarity of each piece. The peace sculpture is my favorite piece.

This was such a great event that Erie Downtown Partnership put on. My friends and I kept saying it was so fun to have something to do in the winter. I hope there will be more winter events next year!
