New England Summer Getaway

Earlier this month I took a solo road trip to Rhode Island to visit my best friend, MJ. It was a jammed-packed long weekend filled with delicious food, shopping, and sightseeing.

Thursday, August 11th

I woke up early on August 11th to hit the road. It was a beautiful sunny day with not much traffic (thank goodness). During my 8 hours drive, I listened to Taylor Swift's entire discography and, of course, had my own car karaoke session. When I arrived at MJ's, she showed me to my lovely guest room, we caught up, and then she made the best curry dish. After dinner, we headed into the town of Bristol for ice cream and walked over to the bay to watch the boats float by while the sunset.

MJ knows I love to plan and created an itinerary for the weekend! How fricken cute is this!

Friday, August 12th

On Friday, we woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to get this weekend of events started! After breakfast, we stopped by a gorgeous manor overlooking the bay. Glen Manor is a popular place to get married, and I can see why. We had some time to kill before MJ had to head to Newport for a floral setup so we stopped at the Sashuest Point National Wildlife Refuge.

Saturday, August 13th

Saturday we hopped in the car and headed to Boston. When MJ and I lived together in NYC, our favorite place to eat was Eataly. A few years ago, they opened Eataly Boston. We ordered pizza and pasta to share. The pizza was absolutely incredible!

After lunch, we headed over to Cambridge to walk around and check out some shops. MJ took me to this awesome vintage store called The Garment District. It was a huge warehouse with two floors of clothing, shoes, and accessories. It was amazing.

For dinner, we visited MJ's parents and had a delicious homecooked meal by MJ's mom and boyfriend, Myles. For dessert, ice cream. The amount of dairy I consumed on this trip was wild, but oh so worth it. We ended up getting ice cream every day and called it the New England Ice Cream Tour. We would end each night playing Rummy and having a cocktail. MJ and Myles kicked my butt at Rummy every night.

Sunday, August 14th

Sunday we woke up on the early side to head to Judith Point to catch the Block Island ferry. We stopped at Allie's Donuts on the way. We grabbed a half dozen donuts and sampled them all. They were *chef's kiss.*

Once we made it to Block Island, we rented a scooter to get around the island. We stopped at the bluffs, a lighthouse, and had a yummy lunch at The Oar. I ordered a lobster roll that it was overflowing with fresh lobster. The views on this island were unreal.

Monday, August 15th

On Monday, we took it easy. We went into Bristol for breakfast and stopped at The Beehive, which is dog-friendly. We took MJ's pups, Oakley & Colter. They are the sweetest dogs. We walked them around Bristol and I popped into a few local shops looking for gifts and souvenirs.

That night we had leftovers, played Rummy, and, of course, made one last ice cream run.

Tuesday, August 16th

On Tuesday morning, I said goodbye and began my drive home.

There is nothing like a weekend with your bestie. I am so glad I was able to visit MJ and RI. My New England summer getaway was perfect.
