5 Instagram Accounts That Have Inspired My Sustainability Journey

In the past few months, I have taken an interest in sustainable and eco-friendly practices. I know a few things. Recycling makes up a majority of my knowledge on the subject, but I have learned that being eco-friendly is so much more than a soup can. If I had to guess, I believe TikTok inspired this change. I watched so many great videos about simple ways to make a difference in my day to day life and thought "I can do that." And I did. I also started following some of the accounts on Instagram. From there, the algorithm did it's thing and now I'm following a handful of awesome sustainability accounts. Sometimes social media isn't all bad.

The first eco-freindly account I came across was Jessica Clifton from @impactforgood. She describes herself as sustainable(ish), which I love. She always has the best product recommendations and very simple tips on the easiest ways to be more sustainable.

Waste Free Life Daily Guide is an account I just discovered, but I already have found it so helpful. I have saved so many of the digital art guides and fun memes that they post! My personal favorite is this plant art guide.

The Zero Waste Guide is another great account that uses images to tell their story. My personal favorites are their Old Me/New Me posts

Modern Conscious Life is such a cute account! Erika's style is adorable, and through her I have been introduced to so many great sustainable clothing brands. She also has the cutest puppy!

I just started following this account a few days ago and I am already a big fan. Kathryn from Going Zero Waste is Nat Geo's spokesperson for plastic-free living, who provides incredibly easy tips on how lead a zero waste life. Her tips can be as simple as repairing old shoes instead of throwing them away and buying new ones. It's pretty straight forward concept, but I have definitely thrown away decent shoes that could have lasted a bit longer if I just took the time to repair them. Tips like this have put things into perspective for me and made me realize just how wasteful I can be.

I am not sure I can live a zero waste life, and if thats's something I plan to do in the future, it will take a lot of practice and quite a few changes. For me, this journey is about making the small changes where I can to live a more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle. I had already made a few small changes and more are being implemented every week. I am so excited to learn as much as I can, and I can't wait to share my knowledge with you!
