Thrift Store Finds: Winter Clothing & Accessories

Give me a strong coffee, a wide-open Saturday morning, and long walks through the aisles of a thrift store and I will be a very happy human. Thrifting is one of my favorite things to do. During my last few trips. I went home with some great finds that I wanted to share.

Salvation Army is always a go-to when thrifting. The store is huge and usually pretty well organized. I'd say 90% of the time I walk out with at least one item. During my last trip, I purchased a small woven storage basket with a lid for only 2 dollars. I'm not sure exactly what its ultimate purpose will be, but for now, it's great for my vintage scarves.

The Green Scene Thrift Store is a new favorite thrifting spot. I stopped in on a sunny winter's day and within minutes found a handful of treasures. The best find was a vintage Coach crossbody for 3 bucks! She is perfectly worn in and the sweetest shade of coral. I haven't worn her out yet, but I can't wait to pair her with a cozy sweater and my camel coat or an airy, spring dress, once it warms up.

These small hoops were just $1.50! They are about the size of a dime - the perfect dainty hoop. I am pretty picky about clothing when thrifting. It's easy to get sucked in by the low price tags, but I have learned to only buy clothing I know I will wear. I have purchased a few vintages dresses just because I love the print, but never end up wearing them. On this trip, I found two great sweaters for 3 dollars each. They are great staple items that I can see lasting a few years. The grey sweater is a little more formal, but could definitely be dressed down. The polka dots add a fun touch. The maroon crewneck is so soft, and you can't go wrong with a sweet ruffle detail to set this sweater apart from the rest.

I am so excited to add these finds to my closet. I love giving special pieces a new home. Thrifting is the best of both worlds - shopping and great deals! It is also good for our planet. Sounds a little far-fetched, but check out this article on how shopping secondhand makes a difference. "Simply switching to thrifting isn’t going to completely solve all of the problems within the fashion and textile industry, but it is one way we can work to minimize our own carbon footprints and make small steps towards a better future (SERC, 2019). I have slowly been incorporating eco-friendly and sustainable practices into my daily life. Thrifting allows me to enjoy my favorite form of cardio (shopping), save a few bucks, and save the planet. Just call me Captain Planet.
