Erie Local Spotlight 2021: Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park

Ever since Spring arrived in early March, I have spent quite a bit of time walking around Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park or LEAF. Last year I stopped by the Open Market once or twice but never spent too much time in the park otherwise. In the past month, I have made an effort to visit Frontier Park at least once a week. It's a great place to go for a solo walk, walk with friends, or to take your dog for a walk. Perry loves it and especially loves saying hi to all the other dogs.

Frontier has paths all through the park. My friend and I walked around the park for 2 hours yesterday weaving on and off the main path to smaller paths that lead to the creek. Right now the buds on the trees are just emerging and the magnolia trees are almost fully in bloom. Even with the trees a bit bare, this park is so beautiful. I cannot wait to see it in all its summer glory.

I am really looking forward to the Open Market beginning in June. My goal is to plan out my grocery shopping so I can buy all my produce from local farmers each week. There are also so many great vendors selling candles, home décor, and stationery. I will be sure to share more about the Open Market and what I buy once it's up and running.

I wanted to talk about Frontier Park during Earth Month because this organization does so many wonderful things for our community and environment. Right now they are working on an initiative called ReLeaf with a goal to plant 275,000 trees, one for each citizen in Erie County. I was so inspired by this project that I signed up to volunteer and will be making a small donation each month.
