What I Read: November 2022

I only read one book in November, but it was a good one!

Night Road by Kristin Hannah is a story of love, loss, overcoming grief, and forgiveness. This book opened up a floodgate of emotions. I was overjoyed, heartbroken, and mad, and I may have cried once or twice.

I found myself relating to the main character Lexi and even her best friend Mia. Hannah captured the trials of being a young high school girl trying to make friends and learning what a family can be. High school can be scary and overwhelming, but if you find the right people it can be wonderful. The one gripe I have with the book is Mia's mother Jude. I have known grief but nothing like the grief of a mother who has to bury her child. I tried to put myself in Jude's shoes but found I would compare her actions to how I would react. I could not understand her pain. She completely shut down and pushed her family away, who was experiencing the same loss. There were parts of the book where I was very frustrated with her character. That's also when I knew it was a good book, I was emotionally invested.

When I wasn't reading this book, I was thinking about this book. It was a beautiful and powerful read. It is also the first book I have read by Kristin Hannah and it certainly won't be my last. I finished this book and immediately ordered a used version of The Nightengale. I have a feeling that story will be just as captivating as Night Road.
