Summer Nights

I love the glorious sunshine and blue skies that summer brings, but I also adore the summer nights just the same. I am sitting on my patio at 10 pm writing this post. I got out of work around 9, flew home, threw on shorts and my favorite t-shirt and made myself comfortable on the patio. There are a warm breeze and Dixie Chicks playing in the background. I am so relaxed and happy.
Just being able to enjoy this beautiful weather is such a treat. I can't wait until every night is as warm as this one, and I can watch the sunset as my friends and I get ready to enjoy a wonderful summer night.

Each summer one of the activities I look forward to most is having campfires. I love being able to look around a campfire and see all of my friends and family smiling, happy and seemingly stress-free. I also love roasting marshmallows and making s'mores! I have perfected s'more making and even tested some boundaries as far as using candy bars, besides the standard Hersey's milk chocolate. Try substituting the Hersey's milk chocolate bar for a Hersey's Cookie 'n' Creme bar, if you are a white chocolate lover, or if you love peanut butter, Reese's cups are amazing as well!

My other favorite nighttime activity I look forward to during the summer is star gazing. I don't know too much about astrology, but it does interest me and I can name quite a few constellations. When I used to work summer's at a ranch in Wyoming, I loved laying in the grass at night after 12 or 13 hour days and just looking at all the stars. On clear nights, I could see at least two shooting stars. A Wyoming memory I will never forget is seeing the Milky Way for the first time. It was so beautiful and unreal. Even as I stared at all those stars crammed together in a line that went from one end of the sky to the other, I could not believe my eyes. It was truly breathtaking. Although you cannot see the Milky Way from my house, there are still so many stars and constellations to gaze at from a blanket sprawled out on the lawn.

What is your favorite thing about the summertime? What are some activities you always look forward to this time of year?

  1. In my town, we have parish picnics, and that's a BIG THING Of the summer! There are about 2-3 Catholic Church's that throw really big ones...block off the surrounding streets and drink beer in the parking lot where kids during the school year play four square ;) At the end of the summer (the weekend before school starts) we have the KC BBQ (Knights of Columbus). This is a BIG Carnival...that's how you know summer has come to an end :(

I am totally going to try out the resse's peanut butter cups and hershey's cookies and cream bars with my smores!!
