Guess Where I Am?
I'll give you a hint! It's one of my favorite places in the world, and I hope to move here someday! If you guessed New York City you are right! I planned a very spontaneous and last minute trip to the Big Apple a few days ago to visit my best friend. I start classes next week and a new job, so I figured I better get in a quick little trip before I'm all tied down with morning shifts and night classes.
I decided to take the train to Penn Station. It was less expensive than flying since it was so last minute. I have only ever taken the train once before when I was very young so I don't remember much. Despite it being an 8-hour trip, it was very relaxing. I was fully prepared with my laptop, a book, a magazine, my iPod, and snacks, but all I ended up doing was listening to music, glancing at the magazine and mostly getting lost in the scenery. I could stare out the window of a moving vehicle for hours and be completely content. I saw a few butterflies, a deer and some men working on the railroad.
After being on the train for about 8 hours, I was getting very antsy. By the time we reached Yonkers, I was trying to contain my excitement and anticipation. When I got off the train, I made my way up to the warm and busy streets of NYC. I was smiling from ear to ear! I honestly stood on the corner of West 31st and 8th street for a few minutes just people-watching until I made my way over to the curb to hail a cab.
Once in the cab, my driver was zigging and zagging in and out of traffic (thank goodness I don't get motion sickness) and we took Madison all the way up to get to my girlfriend's apartment. Once again, I was staring out the window as we passed by Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, J.Crew, Tom Ford, Coach, Vera Wang, the Palace Hotel where they filmed Gossip Girl, and so many other amazing places.
When I finally arrived at Ashley's apartment, it was about 11pm. I was so hungry so I ordered take out from the amazing 24-hour restaurant that has everything on the menu and more! I decided on a Chicken Parmigiana Hero. It was delivered in record time and was so delicious! For the rest of the night, Ash, her roommate and I chatted for a bit about school and life. Once Ash's roommate hit the hay, we caught up on Tuesday's episode of Pretty Little Liars and watched a few movies before finally passing out around 4am.
It was a fun first night and I am so excited for the next few days. We don't have anything set in stone, but we have thrown around ideas of going to the Bronx Zoo, walking the Brooklyn Bridge, spending a day in Central Park, and of course, shopping! I think we might do some shopping today and go to our favorite burger place, The Shake Shack! Seriously, amazing burgers!
I will be sure to keep you posted on what we do! And try to include some photos! I love taking pictures so I am sure that won't be a problem! The last time I came to visit Ashley, I took so many photos! You can check out everything we did and what we saw in the five NYC posts under February 2011! Hope you enjoy!

ReplyDeleteWow sounds super fun! I also love NYC very much and I've only been there once! I loved shopping there especially in SoHo with all the vintage touch. I also loved just sitting at cafes or pizza restaurants and watch the people walking by. The highlight for me were Insomnia cookies and Tasti D'Lite. Have a great time! x
