Movie Review: How To Be Single

Rating: 4/5 Stars
Genre: RomCom

Last week, my girl friend and I saw How To Be Single. I love Rebel Wilson and Leslie Mann, but I am not a huge fan of Dakota Johnson so I wasn't sure if I would like the movie all that much with her as the lead. I expected the movie to be funny, but mostly in a cliche way. I was pleasantly surprised by how much to really enjoyed the film. It was clever and relatable without being over the top. Although there was a small chunk of the movie, I could have done without. (No spoilers, but if you see the movie, I am referring to the character David. Let me know your thoughts.) I thought everyone in the movie was cast quite well, and by the end of the movie, I was warming up to Dakota. I was especially loving the costume design for her character. There was this red coat I feel in love with! Now that I think of it, Dakota Johnson's character, Alice, wore quite a bit of red in the movie. The romper she's wearing in the poster is another favorite.

Unlike most RomCom's this movie did not focus on a male and female love story, but more of a love story with one's self. You know the old saying, "You can't be happy in a relationship until you are happy by yourself..." Or something like that. The song "Love Myself" by Hailee Steinfeld was the closing song for this movie and sums up the plot pretty well.
If you are looking for a lighthearted movie to make you laugh, this is a great pick. I would definitely watch this flick again. If you have seen it, I would love to know your thoughts!
