National Secondhand Wardrobe Week 2023: My Favorite Jacket

The best part about thrifting is the longevity of the items. Finding a peacoat from the 1960s in excellent condition just blows my mind. Do you ever think about the history of the clothing you thrift? The life it lived before it was found or is that just me? When I bought my favorite vintage peacoat in 2022 through a secondhand shop in Buffalo called Paloma Exchange, I did wonder how it ended up in that shop and ultimately in my care. To last through the decades is pretty impressive. Now this jacket and I have our own adventures.

Our most recent adventure was in NYC. Some girlfriends and I went for a long weekend. The temps were frigid, but I was very toasty walking around the city in my peacoat and coziest sweater. This jacket is great for cold weather. It is roomy enough to pair with a chunky sweater without feeling stiff or bulky.

I don't have many great photos wearing this jacket, but above is a goofy photo taken in a whimsical beer garden that we stumbled upon during our trip. Even in 20 degrees, I was nice and warm in my vintage find.

So tell me... do you ever buy jackets secondhand?
