National Secondhand Wardrobe Week 2023: Sentimental Pieces

I have two sweaters I am constantly reaching for. A cream knit with fringe detail and the softest long grey sweater. They are cozy, cute, and full of memories. I can still remember the day I found these sweaters. Let's talk a walk down memory lane.

In 2017, I visited my best friend MJ who was living in Colorado at the time. We spent a few days in Breckenridge, and then we flew to LA to spend a few days in Santa Monica. It was my first time in California and as soon as I spotted a palm tree I thought ,"Should I move here?" Even in February, the temps were perfect. We both love to shop, so of course that was on the agenda. While out and about, we stopped at Buffalo Exchange and this is where I found two sweaters I still wear to this day.

One evening, MJ and I made our way to Venice Beach and just sat with our toes in the sand listening to the waves gently crash on the shore. We sat in comfortable silence watching the sun creep behind the mountains while the sun danced off the ocean creating diamonds as far as the eye could see. I think of this memory each time I wear my thrifted sweaters.

Over the past 6 years, so many memories have been made. The photo above was taken during my bacheloreete weekend in November 2021. For me, clothes are more than fashion, style and basic warmth. Sometimes the threads that make up a sweater are the same threads that are woven through my memories. These sweaters were given a new life when I bought them and boy have they been lived in.

Do you have an clothing items that carry special memories?
