'Late Night' Provides Major Style Inspo & A Few Life Lessons

Emma Thompson is my fall style icon in the Amazon Prime movie written by and starring Mindy Kaling. 'Late Night' portrays what it's like for women working in a male dominated industry, navigating stereotypes and stigmas, and how to do it all in power pantsuits.
The outfits are relatively simple. Black pants, black shirt, blazers. Menswear inspired, for sure. A lot of these looks can be recreated from your current wardrobe. Or maybe you already nail this style. With a few basic staples (black pants, white button down) and some fun pieces (platform sneakers, plaid blazer), we can dress like the female bosses we are.

When I wasn't Google-ing all of the outfits from the movie, I was jotting down life lessons in my notes app. Most of the lessons I have encountered before, but it never hurts to get a refresher.

  1. Women who speak with emotion are not emotional. I think passion and excitement are often misconstrued as being too emotional, especially when coming from a woman. It's just not the case, and guess what? We aren't robots. I will say crying (esp. at work) is one thing, speaking with enthusiasm is another.
  2. Never show up to a meeting without a pen and paper. Seems like an easy one, but don't forget this!
  3. If you want to see change, you need to come up with a plan. During her first day, Mindy's character arrived at the meeting with opinions on what needed to be done to help elevate the shows ratings, but she did not come with a plan. Always be prepared!
  4. I need more blazers in my life. Enough said.

Have you seen 'Late Night' yet? From the great cast to the funny script and killer styling, this is a great option for your next movie night.
