What I Read: September 2022

It was a very Emily Henry month that quickly veered to the dark and scary. By mid-September, I was already planning out my spooky reads for October. Let's just say, I might not be able to read some of the books before bed... But let's not get ahead of ourselves!

Here's everything I read in September:

Beach Read by Emily Henry. I read this book in a few short days. I instantly connected with January. Spoiler alert: you kind of know the main characters end up together, but it's a winding road to get there. I really enjoyed this book and found myself reaching for it first thing in the morning to squeeze a few pages in before work. If you are into the enemies to lover trope, you will love this book!

People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry. If I am being honest this book was a bit of a slow burn. I also think it's time to admit I am not a fan of a story that jumps back and forth in time every few pages. I love a good flashback, but this felt like whiplash. I will admit the last quarter of the book I was finally hooked and could not put the book down. This opposite attract/friends to strangers to lovers storyline really took off.

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. I devoured this book. Nora is invited to an old friend's bachelorette weekend at a mansion in the woods. Once best friends, Nora and Clare lost touch after Nora suddenly broke up with her boyfriend, quit university, and moved home. Years later Clare is getting married to Nora's ex and someone winds up dead... Add this book to your spooky reads!

Not a Happy Family by Sheri Lapena. This book had me guessing until the very end. Lapena told the story of a troubled family with plenty of secrets. Suddenly, wealthy parents are found dead after Easter dinner. The housekeeper finds them and tampers with evidence? But why? The perfect eldest daughter, the disappointing middle son, and the rebellious youngest daughter... Who killed the Mertons?
