Erie Local Spotlight: Friday Morning Beach Club

Sometimes social media is actually kinda cool and can bring people together. That was certainly the case when I learned about Friday Morning Beach Club on Instagram a few weeks ago.

Friday Morning Beach Club is pretty much what it sounds like. Every Friday morning at Beach 6, there is an open invitation for anyone who wants to take a dip in the lake and enjoy a cup of Joe from Ember+Forge. It's BYOM - bring your own mug and the coffee is free! I have gone twice so far and hope to attend as often as possible. The people I've met during FMBC have all been so nice and welcoming.

My first time at FMBC was so much fun. I did not know anyone, but as soon as I arrived the group organizers introduced themselves and made me feel right at home. Then it was time to jump in the lake! That day the water was warm and the waves had come out to play. I was in the water up to my knees, but the waves were giant and coming up to my chest. Everyone embraced the frothy waves and we all started jumping them like we were kids again. For a few minutes, we were laughing, carefree kids just playing at the beach. When we started to head in, a few of us waited for a big wave to carry us back to shore.

Once we were all back on the beach warming up with a cup of coffee, people meandered around and struck up conversations. A few dogs were there with their humans, so that's always a great icebreaker. As the coffee dwindled down, people slowly left to head to work or go about their day. I said my goodbyes to new acquaintances and headed to the office feeling so happy and full.

This club is my favorite discovery this summer. I have always loved the water. Being able to be near and in the lake feels so good for my body and soul. This weekly activity is something I look forward to each week. I am already dreading when it gets too cold to meet up. Fingers crossed for another Indian summer!
