An Ode to Stripes

Happy National Stripes day! I was so excited when I heard about this 'holiday.' Apparently, J.Crew created this holiday and threw a party packed with celebs who all wore varying degrees of stripes from their new collection. As soon as I discovered this amazing stripy holiday, I clicked over to J.Crew's website to see what incredible pieces they had created. To say I was disappointed is putting it mildly. Aside from the one colorful stripped dress below, many of the pieces were boring, ugly, or overdone. I mean, if you are going to create a frickin' holiday around stripes, do something fun and different with stripes! I want to see unexpected color combos and stripes moving in all directions. I really feel like the company missed an opportunity here. Sure, stripes are a classic, but if you want to make an impact and create a holiday around it, you have to be a little daring.
In an attempt to give stripes the respect they deserve, here are my picks for National Stripes Day.

{ Sweater // Top // Dress // Mules // Slip-Ons // Bag }

The rainbow mules from Just Fab is what I was hoping to see from J.Crew. Fun colors and stripes on unexpected pieces. Rainbow mules are hard to come by, so create a piece people can only find in your stores. The milkmaid top from Madewell incorporates stripes of different widths in muted colors and a trending design. How fun are the Vans! Solid colors in horizontal and vertical stripes. So simple, but really fun. A pattern like that would have been awesome on a skirt or dress. Don't even get me started on the bag. Love the colors, the shape, and especially the handle. Again, these fun colors would have made a great top or even a pant. Heck, a two piece set would be bomb with colors like that.
The possibilities with stripes in limitless and it feels like J.Crew didn't really try to be creative. Sure they collaborated with other designers, but even those pieces are lackluster. So J.Crew, if you need some new, creative thinkers, let me know!
