Father's Day 2019 Gift Guide: 5 Things He Might Use

1. A jar filled with their favorite sweet. My dad eats sweets once in a blue moon, and when he does he always has 2 go-to treats: Oreos and black jelly beans. He almost always have Oreos, but rarely has the licorice jelly beans. This year I am filling a giant mason jar with his favorite sweet treat. It might take him until next year to eat all of them, but I think he will indulge.

2. A funny book. My dad might be the king of dad jokes. I saw this book in an email from Barnes & Noble and immediately knew I needed to get this. He will probably flip through a few pages, reads some jokes, and then set it on his pile of books on the side table, never to be read again.

3. A wine decanter. I love a sweet concord wine, and my dad always sighs in disappointment when I bring a bottle around him. This is the one thing I know my dad feels he failed at- teaching me to appreciate an aged fine, dry wine. In my defense, I have been buying a lot of riesling lately. For someone who thinks the term 'wine snob' is a compliment, my dad does not own a decanter. I even did some research to make sure decanters are legit so not in insult the wine snob. Turns out they are actually really great for older wines. Hopefully he uses it at least once.

4. A handheld back massager. My father bought one thing for himself about 3 years ago and it was a $200 foot massager. I have never been more proud of him for spending some money on himself. I also thank him greatly for a 15 minute foot massage every time I go home. I thought I would add to him arsenal and get him a handheld massager for his back, arms and legs. I can see it now. The foot massager humming along, the hockey game on, and my dad trying to switch out a massage head before giving up and setting it down to gather dust. Yep, he will love it!

5. A record player. What's old is new again. My dad doesn't have any old records, but I think he might like this. I would have to buy him records too. Definitely a Bob Seger album. Okay, Amazon here I come. He loves his Bose so he might use this on Father's Day and that's it. Maybe Christmas if I buy him a Christmas album. Probably Michale Bublé. Wow, this gift is getting expense, but could also make my life easier. Every present could be an album.

All jokes aside, I think these would be great gifts that my dad and other dads would love. My dad would be fine if we didn't buy him any gifts. He is a sucker for a heartfelt card though, and would be expecting a good card. I learned everything I know about choosing the perfect card from my dad.
