What I Read: October 2023

October was all about witches, ghosts, and villains! I read 3.5 books in October and loved almost all of them.

Weyward by Emilia Hart. This book was recommended to me by my marketing director and it was a fantastic recommendation! I devoured this book in one weekend. This story follows three women through three different time periods all of whom are a part of the same family line. The writing is beautiful and took me away to a small, witchy cottage in Britain.

Assistant to the Villian by Hannah Nicole Mayhrer. This was a fun read! The main character Evie finds herself in a very interesting predicament when she is offered a job to become assistant to the kingdom's villain. She also may or may not develop a little crush on this villain along the way. The writing is witty, clever and makes for a fast-paced read. I am really looking forward to the second book!

The Dead Romantics by Ashley Posten. It is very rare that I cannot work my way through a book, but when I reached the halfway point I really found myself struggling. I was intrigued by the main character, Florence Day, who was a ghostwriter for a very famous romance novelist. Aside from that aspect, I found this book to move at a snail's pace. I am sad to report that I did not finish this book. I had high hopes, but it let me down.

In the Company of Witches by Auralee Wallace. When I finally decided to call it quits on The Dead Romantics, I switched gears to this lovely little story. The first day I started this book, I read 100 pages. The town of Evenfall, Bryann, and her aunts drew me in. Think Practical Magic meets Sabrina in Stars Hollow mixed with a murder mystery!
